Crisis Support
- Switchboard is the UK’s LGBTQIA+ support line. They are open 10am to 10pm, 365 days a year. Contact **0800 0119100, [email protected], or webchat.** Switchboard is free, confidential, and anonymous.
- Shout offers free, confidential and 24/7 mental health text support. Text ‘SHOUT’ to 85258. Alternatively, you can text ‘Switchboard’, which will make volunteers aware that you may need support around sexuality and/or gender identity.
- The Galop Helpline offers emotional support, guidance and help to LGBTQ+ people who have experienced violence and abuse. Contact them free on 0800 999 5428, [email protected], or webchat.
- You can contact the NHS Urgent Mental Health Helpline by calling 111 and pressing option 2.
Local and Regional Support Services
- Umbrella Cymru offers support services, advocacy, and hate crime support for the LGBT+ community across South Wales.
- Progress Cymru provides affordable LGBTQ+ mental health services and inclusive counselling via a free or sliding-scale model.
- Glitter Cymru is a monthly meet-up group supporting Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic LGBT+ people in Cardiff.
- Trans Aid Cymru aims to help Transgender, Non-Binary and Intersex (TIN) people through mutual aid support. The project is run by TIN people for TIN people.
- The Piss List is a community-sourced list of public bathrooms in South Wales that are considered safe or high-risk for trans and gender non-conforming (GNC) people.
University Support Services
- Generalised wellbeing support.
- Dedicated support for students who are asylum seekers, care-experienced, disabled/dyslexic, estranged, LGBTQ+, mature, military experienced, carers, parents, and from Black, Asian and Minority ethnic backgrounds.
